Bristol
I have lived in Bristol all my life and it has had a proud record of being a
forward thinking and adventurous over the years which unfortunately has
been tarnished of late by the powers that be.
The bid to be European City of Culture for 2008 failed - a worthy hope but
not for a council who leave streets full of rubbish, turn the city centre into a
nightmare of fun fairs and strange squirty things and make a concerted
effort to strangle the city with road narrowing, cycle and bus lanes etc - all
being anti car to a ridiculous extent, an example being the proliferation of
24 hour bus lanes when Bristol buses only run for about 18 hours a day at
the most. The City is a tangled mass of traffic squeezed into ever
decreasing road space whilst the cyclists use the pavements, go the
"wrong" way along one way streets and invariably ignore red traffic lights
as do many of the buses. The visitor can look forward to seeing the Clifton
Suspension Bridge, The Old Vic and the more modern attractions of
@Bristol plus the Great Britain and Matthew.
